Survey estimators that respect natural orderings

چکیده
Many variables in surveys follow natural orderings that should be respected in estimates of domain means. For instance, the National Compensation Survey estimates mean wages for many job categories, and these mean wages are expected to be non-decreasing according to job level. In this type of situation, isotonic regression can be applied to give constrained estimators satisfying the monotonicity. We combine domain estimation and the pooled adjacent violators algorithm to 10 construct new design-weighted constrained estimators. Under mild conditions on the sampling design and the population, the estimators are shown to be design consistent and asymptotically normal. Confidence intervals for domain means using linearization-based and replication-based variance estimation show marked improvements compared to survey estimators that do not incorporate the constraints. 15

An Extension of Peskun and Tierney Orderings to Continuous Time Markov Chains
Peskun ordering is a partial ordering defined on the space of transition matrices of discrete time Markov chains. If the Markov chains are reversible with respect to a common stationary distribution π, Peskun ordering implies an ordering on the asymptotic variances of the resulting Markov chain Monte Carlo estimators of integrals with respect to π. Peskun ordering is also relevant in the framew...

متن کاملClassic and Bayes Shrinkage Estimation in Rayleigh Distribution Using a Point Guess Based on Censored Data
Introduction In classical methods of statistics, the parameter of interest is estimated based on a random sample using natural estimators such as maximum likelihood or unbiased estimators (sample information). In practice, the researcher has a prior information about the parameter in the form of a point guess value. Information in the guess value is called as nonsample information. Thomp...
متن کاملCalibration Weighting to Compensate for Extreme Values, Non-response and Non-coverage in Labor Force Survey
Frame imperfection, non-response and unequal selection probabilities always affect survey results. In order to compensate for the effects of these problems, Devill and Särndal (1992) introduced a family of estimators called calibration estimators. In these estimators we look for weights that have minimum distance with design weights based on a distance function and satisfy calibration equa...
متن کاملPoverty Orderings and Welfare Dominance
This paper examines the partial orderings of discrete distributions derived from various poverty indices and sets of welfare functions. The poverty ordering with respect to some index P is the ordering obtained when P ranks consistently over a range of admissible poverty lines. The poverty orderings derived from the headcount ratio, the per-capita income gap and another "distribution-sensitive"...
